Your first web read¶
What you'll do: after Occam is installed and connected, run a successful occam_transcode and understand the result.
If you still need install: Quick Start · canonical reference Install · root INSTALL.md.
Published v1.1.1 installs verify archive SHA-256 against the release
manifest, run archive-member preflight before extract, and verify Cosign when
the manifest declares signaturePolicy=required-cosign-v1 (requires the
cosign CLI on PATH). Self-contained runtime closure
(runtimeLayout=self-contained-v1) does not fetch executable helpers from a
mutable repository overlay. Review installation safety
for what install mutates and how to remove it.
Tool surface: product default is OCCAM_PROFILE=reader (8 tools). Set OCCAM_PROFILE=full
for heal/save and the complete fifteen-tool catalog. See Configuration — profiles.
Confirm the local Occam host is ready¶
A release install creates the user-scoped occam launcher and adds its directory
to your user PATH. If the current terminal does not see it yet, open a new
terminal. Source checkouts can use the contributor path described below.
This checks the local MCP host and a live probe. Re-check registration in your AI application separately:
Restart or trust the named app if the status is Almost ready or Action required. Host tiers: MCP hosts.
First call¶
Ask your agent:
Use Occam to read https://example.com
Or invoke:
Expected success¶
ok: true- Non-empty
markdown - Optional signed
receipt(default on)
Expected failure handling¶
ok: false→ readfailure.code→ Failure codes- Do not invent page content from memory
After example.com works, run the recorded documentation job in the
workflow gallery (MDN Functions, omissions listed).
Where to type on your host: onboarding.
Optional session budget (once per chat):
Operator CLI¶
After a release install, run occam --help for the live command list. From a
source checkout, invoke the platform wrapper under scripts/ or add that
directory to PATH.

Session profiles (login walls)¶
For gated pages, export a browser session to a local profile and pass session_profile on extract tools. Occam does not solve CAPTCHAs. See Sessions guide and Configuration.
Advanced: manual MCP wiring¶
Prefer occam connect. Use manual JSON only for generic clients or contributor checkouts.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Command | node |
| Args | ["$OCCAM_HOME/scripts/launch-mcp-host.mjs"] |
| Env | OCCAM_HOME=<install root> |
Server registration name: ff-occam.
Wire into Cursor¶
If you must edit JSON by hand (connect unavailable), register:
{
"mcpServers": {
"ff-occam": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["C:\\path\\to\\ff-occam\\scripts\\launch-mcp-host.mjs"],
"env": { "OCCAM_HOME": "C:\\path\\to\\ff-occam" }
}
}
}
Prefer occam connect so backups and ownership checks apply. More: Manual connect.
Contributor checkout
From a git clone with .NET 10 SDK, set OCCAM_HOME to the repo root, run doctor, then occam connect. See Install — Advanced.
Do not put LLM API keys in Occam's env.
Programmatic TypeScript client¶
From a source checkout, see the @ff-occam/agent-sdk package README. Registry publication is not part of this RC.
Agent skill (any harness)¶
Occam ships a portable skill under skills/occam/. Install via occam skill install from an Occam install. Details: @ff-occam/skill.
